The hikers in the park are the people who report on this board. This is not a government sponsored site. If you are a hiker and just made a hike then please help by updating the trail board with your hiking experiences and with the latest hiking conditions at Glacier. You can even upload your own trail pictures.

Every trail featured in the Glacier hiking forum board is colored in on the map below. Blue trails are lower in elevation and snow melts away faster on these trails. Many of the lower elevation trails are generally open by May. Red trails are higher elevation trails which can be clogged with snow well into July. To see the details of any particular trail on the Glacier hiking forum board simply click on the appropriate area in the map.

Ahern Pass - An easy half mile trail cut from the Highline Trail near Granite Park takes you to Ahern Pass. Here you get wonderful views of Helen Lake below as well as a range of some of the biggest peaks in the park.

Ahern drift was blasted and treaded on 7/22/09 and is now passable for hikers. It is not recommended for stock at this time. The Cattle Queen Drift (about 2.5 mi. north of Ahern) forms a classic snowbridge which may not be apparent thus it is recommended that hikers take the faint alternate trail that crosses the stream course approx. 120' below the drift. The trail north of Ahern is scheduled for maintenance by 8/15/09. 250 Snow Cover: 5%, SNOW HAZARD, 07/23/2009 per 223. Trees Down: 3, 07/23/2009 per 223. Glacier National park was named for the glaciers that carved, sculpted, and formed this landscape millions of years ago. Despite the recession of current glaciers, the park's name will not change when the glaciers are gone.
